Ireland go down to defeat in drab affair...28/03/2017
Ireland went down to a one nil defeat by Iceland in a friendly international played at the Aviva Stadium this Tuesday evening. An attendance of 37,241 will have generated some significant funds but the value from a playing perspective may be considered negligible. John Egan and Conor Hourihane from the outset with Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan replacing them on sixty three minuters all made their international debuts. The visitors scored their winning goal after twenty two minutes of a dull and insipid first half. The introduction of four substitutes on sixty three minutes and two further changes eight minutes later, did lend to some improvement but from a player perspective the merits of a post competitive friendly, three or four days before crucial club commitments are hugely debateable.

Our U19 side defeated hosts Belgium by one goal to nil in their concluding contest at the Elite Stage of the 2017 European Championships in Beveren, this evening, but suffered bitter disappointment as Sweden also won by one goal to nil against Italy and qualify for the finals on the head to head result when they defeated us on Saturday afternoon.

Robbie Brady set to captain Ireland this evening...28/03/2017
Robbie Brady will captain Ireland in this evening's friendly international against Iceland in the Aviva Stadium. Brady has previously captained St Kevin's at schoolboy level and the Ireland U21 side but not at senior club level. In his pre-match press conference, Martin O'Neill hinted at the liklihood of players making their international debuts this evening, which would suggest that the uncapped quartet of Andy Boyle, John Egan, Daryl Horgan and Conor Hourihane may be in line for some game time.

Ireland opened their qualifying campaign in the 2019 European Championship with a hard fought one nil victory over newcomers Kosova in Tallaght Stadium early this Saturday afternoon. The visitors, playing their first ever competitive fixture, were something of an unknown quantity but provided a stiff challenge. The winner came ten minutes into the second half from Olamide Shodipo but five yellow cards for Ireland iin the final thirty minutes tell their own tale.

Ireland garner valuable point in frightened display...24/03/2017
Ireland emerged with a valuable World Cup qualifying point from a frightened performance against Wales in the Aviva Stadium this Friday evening. The evening was marred however, by the serious injury suffered by Seamus Coleman on seventy two minutes which resulted in Welsh defender Taylor being dismissed. Having been outclassed during the first seventy minutes by their superior footballing opponents, Ireland, with the extra man, did launch a more robust finale but were unable to find the finishing touch and the match ended scoreless. While the point is hugely valuable and the defensive display admirable, the paucity of any quality football is deeply disappointing. As ever, the players can not be faulted for physical effort with James McClean giving a hugely committed performance, but the football attempted by Ireland was more agricultural than adroit.

U19s open Elite Stage challenge with victory...23/03/2017
Our U19 side opened their Elite Stage challenge at the 2017 European Championships in Hamme, Belgium this Thursday afternoon with a sparkling two nil victory over Italy. Goals from Conor Levingston on thirty four minutes and Ronan Hale after seventy one minutes set the seal on a merited victory. Hosts Belgium came from behind to defeat Sweden by two goals to one in Beveren earlier this afternoon. Ireland next face Sweden in Beveren at 1pm on Saturday afternoon.
Full compliment in Thursday morning training...23/03/2017
The full suviving compliment of twenty six players took part in training at Abbotstown this Thursday morning. While second guessing Martin O'Neill is a thankless task, it begins to look as if James McCarthy may well be in line to start tomorrow evening's crucial World Cup qualifier against Wales.

Our U19 side, with Head Coach Tom Mohan at the helm, contest the Elite Stage of the 2017 European Championships in Belgium this week. Ireland commence their challenge against Italy at 6pm (Irish time) on Thursday evening in the FC VW Hamme Stadium. Hosts Belgium face Sweden in Beveren earlier that afternoon. Note the irony that this Group Seven composition replicates that of our senior side at last year's European Championship Finals in France.
